This book is about the life of a spring pig.  On the farm, the Charlotte had a group of animal friends that worked together to make the pig radiant.  This book would be great to teach the student's vocabulary words and friendship.  You can use the words that were written on the web to make a web activity in class.

Coraline - Neil Gaiman

This book is about the discovery of the world that is around you.  The main character finds her way to another world where she has finds the doppelgangers of her love ones.  Here she must make a choice to stay in this new world or go back to the world she grew up in.

The book is a great way to build character, setting, and plot development.

Bridge to Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

Grade: 4th

This book is about a boy that finds a mystical world in his own back yard.  With his imagination, he can escape all his fears from his life.  One day when his best friend dies, he has to decide if this is the event that keeps him from going back to Terabithia.

 

The book can be used as a class discussion over a difficult subject like a death of a friend or family and how to move forward.

Bud, Not Buddy - Christopher Paul Curtis

Grade: 5th

 This is a book about an orphan boys journey through life.  He is faced with a struggle that any African American boy would face during the 1930's.  This book would be great to have class discussion about diversity.
